Getting Into Umpiring
Umpires are as important to the game as the players are. There are opportunities for everyone to umpire from our own junior and adult matches, to moving into the Regional, National league, and even to International Levels.
At St Neots we have a range of umpires encompassing all the levels, from those who umpire 'just down the club', all the way up to an International umpire.
Getting Started
Getting started. England Hockey have a wealth of information online here which will help you develop your understanding of the rules and what is required to complete your Level 1 course. England Hockey run the Level 1 Umpiring courses online which you can book here. No need to worry about covering expenses as the course is FREE.
Once you have completed the Level 1 course, simply let our Umpire Liaison Officer - Ant Holmes know and he can help you get a game and a coach on the game to get ready for your assessment game.
At St Neots we encourage and support new umpires of all ages and abilities to pick up the whistle. As it gives a new perspective on the game, develops your understanding of the game, and makes you appreciate umpires for the level of skill and confidence it can take to blow the whistle. We try to encourage a healthy and happy culture around umpires and ask our teams to engage with them, and discuss any queries in a friendly manner. Also Umpiring is not just for players, we love to see retiring players, parents, and even Grand-parents pick up the whistle and get involved in a great sport.
Umpire Development
We offer coaching for all umpires at the club if they wish to develop, and try to run Umpire Development Days across the season.
