St Neots Women’s 1s continued their perfect start to the season with a 6-0 away to Cambridge South 3s.

They were rewarded for their early pressing with a couple of short corners, Ella Roberts converted from the second to give Saints the lead.

Marie Quintilla followed up with two goals of her own from open play to give the visitors a 3-0 lead at half time.

After the break, Saints continued to dominate the play and earned another short corner. A switch of routine saw Louise Taylor firing in a strike from the top of the D.

Taylor had her second from another short corner and nearly had a third, but the shot was blocked, only for Quintilla to tap in for her own hattrick.

The win keeps Saints on top of the table due to being the league’s top scorers with 16 goals in three games.

The other women’s sides were all on the end of defeats without scoring. The 2s continued their tough start to the season with a 4-0 loss to Cambridge South 2s, the 3s were heavily beaten 9-0 away to Cambridge Nomads and the 4s narrowly lost 1-0 to Ely City 3s.

The Men’s 1s kept their 100% start to the season with a hard fought 2-1 win away to Cambridge City 4s.

Saints put pressure on the hosts from the start and after creating a number of chances, were finally able to convert when Mike Hornby’s cut back was knocked in by full back Tom Alderman.

Saints continued some steady build up play but were unable to increase their lead.

The hosts would go on to make Saints pay for their misses when they finally converted a short corner. City were able to win a string of short corners, but goalkeeper, Ben Seaber put in a man of the match performance and had denied them each time until they found a way past on the sixth attempt.

The scores weren’t level for long though as Bradley Forsdick converted his first goal of the season after Evan Lincoln’s assist.

Saints continued to put pressure on City in the second half, but were left frustrated at the lack of clear cut chances in front of goal.

They were awarded a penalty flick midway through the half, but Forsdick put his attempt at doubling his tally wide.

City created some chances for themselves late on but composed defending ensured Saints left with all three points and extended their unbeaten league run to 20 games.

The Men’s 3s were the only other men’s side in action and they earned a point away against Spalding 3s. Tim Bates scored the goal for Saints in the 1-1 draw.
