It was a mixed weekend for St Neots Hockey Club, with two victories, one draw and four defeats across the men’s and women’s sides.
The Men’s 1s endured a difficult game away to Ely City 1s, falling to a 6-0 defeat against the hosts.
The Women’s 1s also came away empty-handed after a 2-0 loss at Cambridge University 3s, despite a determined performance.
The Men’s 2s secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kettering 3s. Georgie Browne proved to be the difference, scoring the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute as St Neots defended resolutely to claim all three points.
The Women’s 2s produced one of the performances of the weekend with an entertaining 4-1 win over Pelicans 2s. Annie Cerveno opened the scoring in the 43rd minute before Pelicans levelled nine minutes later. Saints responded immediately, with Ness Wilson restoring the lead just a minute after the equaliser. Lauren Mercer added a third on the hour mark from a penalty stroke, before Wilson wrapped up the victory with her second goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute.
The Men’s 3s were narrowly beaten 1-0 away to Spalding 4s in a closely contested encounter.
The Women’s 3s shared the spoils in a thrilling 3-3 draw away to Pelicans 4s. Gabriella Snook gave St Neots an early lead after 14 minutes before the hosts equalised six minutes later. Lauren Carruthers restored the visitors’ advantage in the 25th minute, but Pelicans struck again shortly after half-time to make it 2-2. Katie Biggs looked to have won it for Saints with a goal in the 62nd minute, only for Pelicans to snatch another equaliser three minutes later. Stand in goalkeeper, Lizzy Bertram pulled off some excellent saves.
