Both St Neots 1st teams lost their opening games of the season to two different Cambridge clubs.

The Men’s 1s narrowly lost 2-1 away to Cambridge Nomads.

Saints conceded early in the first half and were two goals down just before the break.

Nick Hipwell scored Saints consolation late on from a penalty corner.

The Women’s 1s were beaten 6-2 against Cambridge City 4s.

City raced into a three goal lead in just under 15 minutes.

Kira Herbert pulled a goal back for Saints but City regained their three goal lead a few minutes later.

Midway through the second half, Sue Glover scored Saints’ second before City scored two more late on.

In comparison, both second teams started their campaigns with wins over March Town.

The Women’s 2s dominated their home game against March Town 1s, running out 4-0 winners.

Lucia Benbow scored inside the opening minute and Amelia Beauchamp added a second just after half time.

Both Benbow and Beauchamp doubled their tallies for the day scoring in the final five minutes.

The Men’s 2s took to the field straight after and beat March 2s 3-1.

Saints took the lead halfway though the opening period when Anthony Holmes fired in from a short corner.

The visitors scored an equaliser soon after to head in level at the break.

Saints were in control of the game and eventually regained the lead when James Findlay finished a fantastic team move.

As Saints won another short corner late on, Holmes became provider as he slipped the ball to Andrew Pope to score.

The Men’s 3s featured in the following game and were easily beaten 5-0 to last season’s relegated side St Ives 3s.

In the final home game of the day, the Men’s 4s were defeated 2-1 by Ely City 4s.

Club legend Steve Moore was on the scoresheet for Saints.

The Women’s 3s were also in action, losing 4-0 away to Spalding 3s.
